Resignation of Fr. Patrick McGraw
The Bishop of Bathurst advised that Fr. Patrick McGraw, formerly of the Lamèque parish grouping, has resigned from the position of parish pastor and has asked to be laicised.
The request comes following a complaint being made by an adult male who alleges that Fr. Patrick McGraw involved him in an inappropriate sexual relationship.
The Diocese, in accordance with its protocols, investigated the matter. Fr. Patrick McGraw admitted to the relationship.
The Diocese has, in keeping with its procedures and protocols, provided the complainant with counselling.
“The Diocese is saddened by these events”, said Bishop Daniel Jodoin.  “We recognise that Fr. McGraw’s conduct was inappropriate and we will support his application for laicisation.  I ask for prayers for all involved, and in particular, the complainant.”
Out of concern for the confidentiality of those involved, the Diocese will make no further statement.
