Diocese Newsletter - June 23rd, 2020

From the Bishop's Office
In regards to the celebration of the sacraments of Christian initiation for children who have completed their preparation (Reconciliation and Eucharist), each parish will establish its own calendar of celebrations which will best suit its needs. These could be, for example, celebrating First Communion during Sunday celebrations spread out throughout the summer or celebrations in small groups only for the candidates, etc.
As for Confirmations, they will take place next spring. We hope the virus will be a thing of the past by then, so we can celebrate this sacrament for both groups (those from this year who can complete their formation if necessary and those who will have prepared next year). We will thus be able to welcome families, friends and parishioners without problem and live this sacrament in joy (with a choir for example) and without all the restrictive health security measures.
Last week, the government released its plan for the return to school in the fall. We are currently examining the details of this plan and its impact on our catechism classes. Proposals will be sent to you shortly concerning catechism classes for the children of your communities. Church life continues.
The list of people who attend Masses, weddings, funerals and baptisms must continue for each celebration. These records should be kept in a safe place. This would allow us to verify whether the person was at least present at such or such celebration. All dioceses in New Brunswick will follow this procedure until further notice
News of our priests
It is with regret that we learned of the passing of Mr. Arthur Doiron, brother of Father Yvon Doiron, on Saturday June 20 at the age of 70 at Tracadie Hospital. He was the son of the late Arthur Doiron and Médore Losier. Our sincere condolences to Father Doiron and his family. Let us be united with them in prayer.
