Ash Wednesday Homely
(given at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bathurst)

We are already in Lent, a time that is dear to us as believers because this time allows us to deepen our faith and to prepare ourselves well for the beautiful feast of Easter, the feast of the Resurrection of Christ but also, and we should not forget it, the promise of our own resurrection. This Easter feast is truly at the heart of our faith, the source of our joy and our hope as Christians.

This year, the World Day of the Sick is on the theme: "You have only one master and you are all brothers (Mt 23, 8) ”.
The celebration of the 29th World Day of the Sick, which will take place on February 11, 2021, in memory of Our-Lady of Lourdes, is a good time to pay special attention to sick people and to those who assist them, both in places dedicated to care and within families and communities.

Christmas, the holiday of love, reminds us that we are not made to live alone, but quite the opposite, to be in a constant relationship with God, who comes close to us by the birth of his Son in our midst; a Son who became our brother, a master, and the Messiah, so long awaited by all humanity. In communion with Him, we are constantly brought to create ever closer ties with the members of our families and those who surround us, in particular the poorest, the destitute, the sick, the suffering, the people who are alone.
